- Ingredients:
- 1 whole turkey (12 lbs)
- 1/2 cup butter, sliced into 5 pieces
- 1/2 cup olive oil (or any vegetable oil)
- 1 teaspoon ground allspice
- 1 teaspoon salt, seasoned
- 4 cloves large garlic, crushed
- 1 can cranberry sauce
Cookware:
- Aluminum foil
- Roasting pan
Instructions:
- Preheat oven to 360 degrees (F).
- Wash and pat dry the turkey with paper towel.
- Cut a sheet of aluminum foil and lay across roasting pan, long enough to wrap around turkey.
- Place turkey in a roasting pan, carefully spreading butter under breasts, thighs and drumsticks.
- Spread oil and crushed garlic cloves over the surface of turkey, then sprinkle with allspice and seasoned salt.
- Cover turkey fairly loosely with aluminum foil and place in the oven.
- Bake for 3.5-4 hours, turning it over at least once per side (approx. every 50 minutes).
- To check for readiness, stick a fork to see that clear juice runs out instead of pink.
- For the last 30 minutes of baking, uncover turkey from aluminum foil, letting it brown.
- Remove turkey from oven and let sit for 20 minutes before serving.
- Serve turkey with cranberry sauce.
A few tips:
- Tie or skewer turkey around its legs to hold the shape while roasting.
